Kamchatka region – Tourism in Russia

Kamchatka region is fiery and alive, almost all tourist routes go through either thermal or mineral springs, or through the crater of one of the active volcanoes. Few places on the planet where you can see so many volcanoes simultaneously.

Of course, the pearl of Kamchatka is the world famous Valley of Geysers.

The valley of Geysers is a rare natural phenomenon, where in a limited area concentrated all forms of volcanism: geysers, hot pulsating sources and ponds provide unusual conditions for the development of thermophilic organisms.

The Kamchatka volcanoes are from each other at a distance of 20-30 km, The highest of active volcanoes, Kluchevskaya Sopka (4750 m), which, in addition, the highest volcanic elevation of Eurasia. The ascent to it tourists make in the winter.

Unique originality of Kamchatka are forests of larch, spruce, pine and stone birch. The Peninsula is rich in berries.

The abundance of brown bears, hundreds accumulates along the river during the stately progress of salmonids makes Kamchatka unique identity. The population of bears here the largest in Russia.

Also on the Kamchatka Peninsula there are hot and cold mineral springs of various chemical composition and temperature. There are 274 mineral water springs, of which 160 hot springs. In addition, the region has almost all mineral medicinal and table water known in the world.

The waters of Kamchatka the main wealth of the Peninsula: a clean, rapid rivers, beautiful lakes, vast coastal marine waters. There are more than ten species of salmon. Every year in mid-June starts the main event in the life of Kamchatka rivers and lakes spawning salmon.

Despite that fishing with the use of a license takes place here by a principle “has caught-release”, i.e. all fish caught in the river comes alive with the utmost care during its release. Such careful attitude to natural resources due to the fact that up to 90-ies of the Kamchatka Peninsula was a closed region, a protected area of Russia. And it is no coincidence that there are two state biosphere reserves, 24 state reserves, 169 nature sanctuaries, 5 natural parks, about 30% of the territory classified as protected. Six of them included in the UNESCO “List of world cultural and natural heritage”, United under the General name “Volcanoes of Kamchatka”.

All this creates great opportunities for the development of a wide range of eco-tourism on the Peninsula, sport fishing and hunting, skiing and mountaineering.
